Hello again, Zulu’s Magic the Gathering fans. Welcome, Hobbit fans and future MTG: The Hobbit players! I’m no sage, but I can guarantee that the future looks amazing because two of my favorite entertainment properties are teaming up in early August. I hope you’ll journey together with the Zulu’s crew and enjoy the pre-release week. Here’s a few tips on how you can join and what you should be looking forward to.
Preorders and prerelease events:
This week we're opening up preorders for sealed product and selling tickets to our prerelease events. We expect to sell out of many of the sealed SKUs and to sell all seats for most events, so we offer in-store preorders to local fans and players ahead of the internet. Follow and check our Discord (or phone us) and confirm before you come in!

Always new… always awesome. Come to our crafting party!
I’ll admit that MTG isn’t for everyone, but I firmly believe that Tolkien’s work truly is. So, for those non-Magic fans in your family, we are hosting a crafting party where you can bring your +1’s and kids while you play. We’ll be making a mural, plus we’ll have stickers, puzzles, and dragons to color… Great fun for the crafters and artists in your fellowship.
The event is free and will take place on Saturday, August 15, starting at 2:30 pm. No preregistration is required, but a free ticket is available on our Events page to help remind you of the fun.
I'm a commander player: why should I care?
Ever since The Lord of the Rings MTG commander decks released (June 2023) I’ve been playing with my Hobbits’ food and getting tempted by the One Ring… I know, it sounds like a problem, but it's really fun! The Hobbit doesn’t have commander precons, but it’ll deliver on gorgeous and powerful commander staples that’ll get jammed into my Food & Fellowship deck (plus others)! Here are a few tasty treats that have already been spoiled. (SPOILER ALERT)
Ok, maybe Smaug is off theme for a food deck. But it’s so cool, and limited to 500 gold treatments… drool!
Limited Events you don't want to miss
Prerelease events start on Friday, August 7, at 5 pm and run through Wednesday, August 12 at 7 pm. But wait! We’ll repeat many of them for release weekend, starting August 14.

Learn to play magic at the Magic Academy
If all this talk makes you want to learn Magic: The Gathering, we also have a free learn to play on Saturday, August 15 from 3 to 6 pm.
PM. This is geared towards new and returning players and the goal is to get you through your first game of magic in a fun, Hobbit-themed way. You’ll leave with two easy to play decks so you can teach your friends. A journey together becomes an adventure!
Still on the fence? Get off it…Box toppers return! Dwarvish language card! And more!
Collectors and MTG fans alike were delighted by the super high quality box toppers that came with play and collectors boosters in LotR. Well, the Hobbit will have a new batch, including some very welcome reprints, like the One Ring! Get your boxes while you can! Collectors packs also have the potential to drop Dwarvish language cards! And nostalgic book cover cards can appear in any pack. Precious!
It’s not a riddle: I am super excited and super biased about the upcoming Hobbit release. I invite you to come give it a go. Don’t dally! I expect many product to sell out in presale and many events to fill all seats. It’s going to be an amazing journey with something for everyone!
